How to Choose a Whisky Decanter

The cut matters

Hand-cut crystal — vertical flutes, panel cuts, diamond patterns — refracts the light of the spirit and adds weight to the pour. For traditionalists, look for full lead crystal with a deep ring when you tap the rim. For everyday use, lead-free crystal carries the same clarity without the precautions.

Capacity and proportion

A 0.7 L decanter is the British standard, sized to one bottle of whisky with breathing room. A taller, narrower shape preserves aroma; a wider base lets the spirit open up. Pair with weighted tumblers — a 25–30 cl glass is the right balance for two fingers of single malt.

Engraving

Names, dates, monograms, short dedications — engraving turns a decanter into an heirloom. Send your text at checkout; our partners hand-finish each piece. Allow an extra five to seven days for engraved orders.

Care

Always hand-wash crystal in warm soapy water; never the dishwasher. Dry with a soft lint-free cloth and store upright with the stopper slightly loose to let air circulate. With a little attention, a fine decanter outlives its owner.
