Crystal & Glass Care Guide
Hand-wash, always
Dishwasher detergents etch crystal and cloud the surface over time. Wash all glassware in warm water with a mild, pH-neutral soap. Avoid sudden temperature changes — pour hot water into a cold decanter and you risk a stress fracture.
Drying without spots
Dry with a clean microfibre cloth, not paper. For decanters, slide a rolled length of soft cotton into the neck to absorb residual moisture. Stoppers should sit just loose, not sealed, while the piece dries.
Removing residue
Old wine and whisky leave staining inside a narrow decanter. A teaspoon of uncooked rice with warm water and a splash of vinegar, swirled for a minute or two, lifts most residue. Rinse thoroughly. Avoid harsh abrasives.
Storage
Store crystal upright on a stable shelf. Keep stoppers slightly off to prevent the seal from fusing. For long storage, wrap in acid-free tissue and box away from direct sun. Heat and UV gradually dull both the surface and any silver mounts.
